First-Aid Tips

If you’ve experienced an eye emergency, please follow these tips. Remember, first-aid isn’t a replacement for medical advice, but it can help to manage the situation until you can get medical assistance.

  • For blunt trauma, place a cold compress over the area.
  • For chemical exposure, flush your eyes out with cool, clean water for 15 minutes.
  • For any punctures, tears, rips or scratches, do not touch the area or place pressure on it. Instead, cover the area with an eye shield.

WHMIS

Every workplace in Canada should have available a Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) guide. This guide comes with information on what to do during different emergencies and how to protect yourself at work.

All people who have jobs in hazardous work environments will also have to complete WHMIS training.
